The series starts with forty years later when Emperor Qianlong and Bobby turns old. The emperor wants Bobby to cook the dragon meat. Boby cooked and put his slices of mean on his dish but the last piece of dragon meat flew on the emperor’s teacup.
Forty years ago, Bobby is a chef running his big restaurant. Bobby served three guests with the dishes. The three guests tasted it and surprisingly found it suck. Bobby told the three guests that those three dishes are found in their three restaurants. They are insult as chef. Bobby served his special new dish from his restaurant to the three guests. The guests ate it all. Roger wrote calligraphy. Bobby took Roger out on the boat to chill. Bobby gave Roger a bottle of wine wishing him luck on the scholar exam. Bobby and Roger read a flyer that the emperor will host a party. Bobby taste spicy food from different chefs but dissatisfy by it. Bobby recalled his father received a royal pan from emperor kangxi. Bobby host a coking competition of tofu to hire a chef for his restaurant. Teams of six chef compete against each other to make a tofu dish. While arguing with his mother, Bobby swallow a piece of tofu and found it really good. The tofu is on dish thirty eight. Bobby searched for the cook who cooked the dish thirty. Bobby touched Marianne without realizing she was a woman. Bobby’s mother yelled at Bobby for cooking for the party. Bobby’s mother said how can a woman compared to his father. Marianne told Bobby’s mother since she gave Bobby the priority of managing the restaurant, who he hires is his business. Bobby’s mother is impressed with Marianne independent personality.
The magistrate tries different food from different chef. Bobby served the spicy tofu for the magistrate but he found it too common. Bobby told the magistrate that it is not hard to cook a special dish but most of the customers at the party are elders who lost their teeth. Tofus are thin which are the perfect dish to serve. Marianne fried spicy tofu for Bobby. Bobby tasted it and found it too oily and spicy. Bobby said his father represented Guangdong as a chef at the party. His food were very good. Bobby tasted his father dish. His father was thrilled he successfully made his dish. He choked and pushed the soy sauce bowl down the stove, and the kitchen got burn. From then on Bobby got scared of the fire. Bobby recalled he saw egg yolks on the stove but when he tasted his father’s dish, he didn’t taste the egg. Bobby woke up and couldn’t find his one thousand dollars cheque. Bobby asked Marianne why did she steal the cheque. Marianne questioned Bobby’s nonsense and said she was curious to see if there is a tofu with white yolk so she spent the night asking someone to taste it. Bobby tasted the tofu with white yolk and found it very thin.
